Metro Manila Air Quality Improvement Sector Development Program (MMAQISDP)

This is an ADB-funded program which aims to improve air quality in MM and surrounding provinces through the abatement of the main mobile and stationary sources of air pollution. The Program has 2 major components.

1. Anti-Smoke Belching (ASB) Project

Thru this Project, MMDA will be assisted in acquisition of 10 units of gas analyzers for use of MMDA and the metro LGUs in their Anti-Smoke Belching activities. It will also include the training of MMDA & LGU personnel in monitoring, apprehension and enforcement of anti-smoke belching law.

2. Traffic Engineering & Management (TEM)

Under this Project, measures to improve traffic flow along major thoroughfares of MM to reduce vehicular emissions will be supported. It will attend to the:

1. Refurbishing and installation of new traffic signs and devices. Road signs & lane markings will be installed to cover 150km stretch of secondary roads; 16 new traffic signal equipment will be provided, geometric improvement and upgrading of 50 intersections shall be done this year & the first 6 months of 2004.

2. Establishment of an efficient enforcement system using state-of-the-art communications system and acquisition of needed traffic enforcement equipment/mobility requirements.

3. Enhancement of enforcement capability to maintain well-trained and professional force of traffic enforcers.

4. Provision of technical support on the aspect of traffic and transport policy development and studies.
